The book offers three complementary perspectives on the exhibition. In an interview with the artist, exhibition curator Anna Perälä discusses key stages in Ratté’s career and the ideas behind her work. Nina Kokkinen, PhD, explores the connections between Ratté’s art and contemporary witchcraft, interpreting the artist’s practice as a form of gentle activism. Aino-Kaisa Koistinen, PhD and Docent, examines the relationship between Ratté’s work and speculative and science fiction, as well as the experience of radical weirdness they evoke. With a large number of images, Web of Wyrd also offers a visual journey into the artist’s distinctive world.
Opening on 31 October 2026, the exhibition Web of Wyrd explores the interplay between digital and analogue realities, body and mind, and utopia and dystopia. Its title refers to the mythical web of fate, in which individual lives are woven into the wider tapestry of existence.
In her artistic practice, Sabrina Ratté combines techniques such as 3D scanning, computer animation, and analogue video synthesis. WAM is proud to present her work for the first time in Finland and the Nordic countries.
The Web of Wyrd publication is the first in the new WAM series. Edited by Johanna Seppä, the book features graphic design by Ulla Kujansuu. It is available to purchase from the WAM Shop at WAM Museum of Contemporary Art.
