Brand refresh is complete – WAM celebrates new beginning with dance film

The brand refresh for WAM Museum of Contemporary Art is complete, and the museum’s new visual identity has been rolled out across all WAM channels. Design agency Kobra Agency was WAM’s partner in the brand refresh.

“WAM’s new visual identity is bold and distinctive. It takes the museum towards the 2030s while drawing inspiration from sculpture and three-dimensional art – both central to what we do and an important part of our almost 60-year history. At the same time, it is an open invitation for everyone to join us in writing the next chapter of WAM’s story,” says Liaison Manager Laura Boxberg.

As part of the refresh, WAM is releasing a first glimpse of a film starring Turku-born dancer Atte Kilpinen. In the dance work Primal Force, WAM’s 1967 building and its exhibition spaces are brought back to life following the museum’s extensive renovation.

Kilpinen was particularly inspired by the space itself and the emotions it evoked:

“The choreography and the dance film based on it are a tribute to the space, its history and its new beginning – a moment before art and people once again fill the museum. My dance acts as a bridge between the past and the future, giving the space movement, emotion and a new story,” says Kilpinen.

The dance film was shot by Turku-based light and video artist Jussi Virkkumaa. The full-length film will be released on WAM’s YouTube channel on the museum’s opening day, Saturday 31 October.

The opening weekend will feature a programme for art lovers of all ages, from guided tours to workshops and artist talks. Tickets for WAM will go on sale online on Wednesday 30 September.
